I bought this set because I wanted to know what all the noise was about. Now I see the instructions are a bit misleading but the kit itself is good and it works but there are steps you need to take. 1- You need a separate terrarium to get started. Place it in another terrarium. 3- Place egg carton trays in your terrarium to give them room to crawl. 4- Put food and whole bites of green crickets in your terrarium lamp to ensure breeding, keep the temperature at 89 degrees. It's time to add the crickets, you need to add 10 females and 10 males, any breed will do. The difference is that the females do not sing, only the males sing, they do so by rubbing their wings and legs together. Females have what is called an ovipositor, a sword-like tube that extends up to a quarter of a tree long from the end of the abdomen (like a spike). You need to keep an eye on them to ensure breed after breed occurs. You will see the females laying eggs as they lay eggs, at this point you must remove the males as the males tend to eat the eggs, they dig up the eggs and eat them all. Once your females have finished laying eggs, you need to remove the egg tray. This is where the kit comes into play. Place the eggshell in the kit terrarium, put the lid on and make sure you put food around the edges and also put small beads of water inside, this will serve as the incubation chamber for your eggs. This does not affect the closure of the upper part. You can actually use this kit for hatching all eggs, you can use it for reptile eggs etc. This kit is for eggs only, not for breeding.
