Of the plus points, I can always swap the light bulb for an LED, I think that's an advantage if it's bright enough and has an eye-catcher I want . Appearance is important as some LED lights can have a very unpleasant and unnatural color cast. Most people have seen enough aquariums in their lifetime to know what looks good and what doesn't. This model is blue in color and is used alone. It has a cartoon look that some like and some don't. Appearance is enhanced when used in combination with a pure white bulb. I have used the word lightbulb a few times and it is important to note that the seller's description of this product may be misleading to some people. They call it a lamp. I think a lot of people think of a lamp as a light fixture (like a table lamp or floor lamp) that is a fully functional, standalone item that you can plug in and use. It is not a lamp as defined by this definition, it is a replacement lamp...it must be used with a dedicated fixture. Aqueon sells these lamps, but they are very expensive just because something is holding the bulb. If you only need a lightbulb that size, you'd spend about $70 just to get started. Of course, if you already have a holder that the bulb fits in, this isn't the case. Contrary to some who have written about broken devices, mine wasn't damaged and I think it was protected reasonably well, but if this is a common problem I would think the seller would deal with all the people who have broken devices received, does not speak well of their customer support. By the way, it is very important to understand that you can order this either by default or without disappointment. Mine was disappointment free and maybe it's actually packaged a little bit better? However, I'm not judging Akewon too much; They are an established brand and are sold in many places. Bottom line, they do what they're designed to do but are otherwise relatively ordinary replacement bulbs. I suggest that the seller make it clear that they are only selling replacement bulbs.
