Overall this set of shelves meets my needs for the purpose I bought it for. I believe the wood grain is some kind of patterned decal that gets stuck on a chipboard or something so I can see it peeling off over time if it gets wet or something gets caught on it. . As you can see in my image they didn't work/extended properly (anchor on right side of image) and I had to use some of the others I already had (left). You can arrange the brackets 3 ways to hang the shelves (see instruction photo above). I wish I knew the weight rating for each method, but since I don't I have spacers on the bottom which seem to provide the best support for placing ceramic soil and flower pots on the shelves. In general I am satisfied with the end result.
