The main problem with countersunk screws is that you have a large hole where the countersunk screw sits. These plugs are pre-punched to fill these holes. Put them in the hole, a little light sanding and it's hard to see there was a hole. The maple corks fitted my tree perfectly. If you want the ease of pocket screws but want the finished look, there are some great ones out there. I know you can make your own out of wooden dowels, but for a few bucks you can save yourself some time and effort - IMHO it's worth it.
