Review on Dorman 923 228 Third Brake Lamp by Kaushik Hall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Hopefully better than OEM

Like many Mini R53 Cooper S owners, my red lens fell off the third brake light. I looked on You Tube to find out how to remove the light. It's very easy, actually easier than shown in a couple of videos. There are 3 TX15 screws on the top of the hatch. Remove the screws. Now the videos on You Tube said you had to loosen and pinch the rear spoiler but I was able to get mine off without touching the spoiler. After removing the brake light screws, use a screwdriver to pry the posts out, then the light simply pops out of the socket and is easy to lift and pull down. I had a bit of trouble unplugging it, but it turned out to be easier after I cut the cord off the old flashlight. The whole process took about 5 minutes.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Low repairability
