Everything you need to get started, reasonably priced and neatly packaged

This is my first experience with sealing wax and I think this set is a great introduction. It's simple - cut a small piece of wax (poured into a stick the size of a lily), put it in a spoon, melt the wax over a candle, pour and stamp - but that's it it not. It seems to be one of those activities that takes some time to get really good at. It's definitely worth aligning the stamp in the center to get a clean border around the design. As for this set, it is very nicely packaged in a little book-shaped box tied with a ribbon. Inside everything fits neatly and looks very attractive. I chose this kit partly because the wax does not come with wicks as I have read that the wicks can burn the wax and leave unsightly black marks on the print, but the downside is that the wax sticks are quite hard to cut. I worked with a kitchen knife for a long time before I gave up, clamped it in a vice and sawed it off with a small saw in about five seconds. I imagine you might as well melt the end of the chopstick with a lighter, but I love the ritual and precision of using the spoon. but very strong, sticky, flexible material. This material can be mailed, unlike the traditional wax that would seal modern mail machines, but you'll have to cut the seal to get through, or tear the paper it's on as it sticks strongly to whatever it's on (except parchment paper, which I practice on; it allows you to just take the seal, melt it down, and try again).
