Review on TEAC CD-P1260: LCD Display & MP3 Playback CD Player by Eddy Borghesi

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A fine sounding, but unasuming cd player.

OK so the Teac CD-P1260 won't impress audiophiles; Its not built like a Soviet tank, doesn't hypnotize the user with colorful readouts to rival anything seen on the bridge of the starship Enterprise, has only a basic remote control lacking even a on/off button (for that I shaved off one star.), connects to the amp only via (gasp) archaic RCA cables, and its front panel has all the industrial design esprit of a live bait bucket. Ok, so what. The 1260 works just fine. Load a cd, push play, and out comes music. Error correction is a big deal to me. So,using my treasured collection of trashed country western and thrasher cds (handpicked by myself for testing cd players because they had been used as coasters in a biker bar for a year.) the 1260 skipped only once. Not bad considering a cd player I have costing 5 times the 1260 absolutely refused to play that same cd at all. In fact, the expensive cd player got so miffed at me trying to feed it that trashed disk it went toes up, and refused to speak to me until I fed it a $35 SA-CD of Mozart. Hummph, darned persnickety salon player. Back to the 1260.how's it sound? Just fine. To be frank if one wants to build a good sound system spend the most amount of bucks on the speakers. Ancillary equipment such as cd players, turntables, DVD players, etc. don't make that much difference in the quality of the sound. Unless one has buckets full of cash just sitting around burning a hole in one's pocket. Then by all means don't buy the 1260; run out and waste.I mean invest in a cd player built out of Unobtainium, with displays ripped from ensign Chekov's navigation console, has a remote suitable to run the International Space Station, connects to the amp with optical cables costing $33k (don't laugh, they really exist) and looks like it was designed by Salvador Dali on LSD.Meanwhile sane people will buy players such as the Teac 1260 and enjoy their music.Would I buy it again? Yes. For less than $100 it's a steal.

Pros
  • 2 AA batteries required.
Cons
  • Lacks advanced features such as shuffle or repeat play modes
