We've been using a similar looking pepper mill salt shaker for about 20 years. Although this one looks the same, it works better than the previous one and has three excellent bonus features not advertised by the seller: 1) There is a slide valve on the top of the salt shaker that closes when not in use. This will prevent the salt from sticking together and clogging the holes in wet weather. In the first photo, the valve is in the closed position; the second with the valve in the open position. 2) The mechanism of the pepper mill is made of ceramic, which will last forever without corroding. [Cm. third photo.] The shredding mechanism on our previous model had metal parts that no longer worked properly. 3) The grinder has four grind settings: extra fine, fine, medium and coarse.
