Bought to reuse an old spare internal hard drive as a spare external drive. Installing the drive was fairly easy, no tools required. Opening the case is a bit annoying, as moving the two halves relative to each other to open the SATA connector requires quite a bit of force to get enough friction to open the case. causing the plastic case to be bent. Inside. Install the drive, close the case and connect it to the USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port using the USB-C to USB-C cable. Initially, the drive was recognized but could not be formatted by any of the utilities I tried, including Windows Disk Manager, Paragon (Windows), gparted (Linux), and mkfs (Linux). I tried moving the port I connected to and in the end the drive was not recognized by any operating system. I found that the SATA controller had failed and almost started the return process when I decided to try a different cable. Wow, everything worked. Don't really have problems like the ones I've had with a bad cable. All of this experience made me suspicious of the quality control of these knotted cases. I'll keep an eye out for other issues but so far everything works and the only issue was the cable that came with it.
