We bought this set to tinker around outside in the yard with the grandkids. The kit comes with a number of rods (basically like large straws only sturdier) and two types of colored balls that have pre-drilled holes in them. From this you can construct various shapes. While the box is marked for ages 5+, (only speaking from our personal experience here), there were two things that made it a bit difficult for the youngsters to assemble it themselves. The rods are a very tight fit into the holes and require some pressure to get them inserted. However once used a couple of times, this becomes slightly easier. The other issue (for me the grandparent) was figuring out how to align the balls to build the shapes. Okay I'm a man and don't ask for directions. When I did look at the included directions it became easier to create shapes. So it does challenge you when you want to create different structures from the ones the manufacturer suggest. While I was busy building one of the structures, my 3 year old grandson was busy making triangles. It kept us engaged for a long time. Lots of fun. One thing I wish the manufacturer would add and perhaps it is available in the larger kits (ours was the 85 piece kit), would be rods of different lengths. At times I wanted to make different shapes that needed shorter rods. Lots of fun, glad me bought it.
