My healthy, active 14 year old cat had a mass removed from her abdomen. When I found out that she would have to wear an e-collar for 2 weeks, I immediately started looking for an alternative. I have ordered various surgical recovery suits and this was the only one that was long enough. (The most important thing is the size from the neck to the base of the tail.) This costume has strong buttons all over the back and is easy to take off. (Suits with Velcro tend to trap hair.) It's made of lightweight, soft fabric that's easy to wash. My cat can't stand captivity at all, but this costume seems to comfort her. I take care of it daily and when I unzip and take it off it shakes a bit but stays in place while I pick it up and reseal it. I think since her stomach was shaved the suit will keep her cool and provide some protection to the surgical site. I think all vets should educate their clients about this stress relieving e-collar replacement. Note. If you have big hands you may have trouble with the latches.
