It almost takes a pro to set up this machine

Total newbie to 3D printing here. I was looking for a machine that has a high build volume and is capable of printing in two materials. The Artist-D Pro seemed to meet these needs. The unusual experience on this occasion was terrible. Here are the problems I had to solve before I could get an acceptable print: - I knew immediately what the Z axis lead screw was. The lead screw on the right was not attached to the drive motor. It was a huge headache for a new user. - The bed almost fell off the assembly. I had to remove it, tighten the wheels on the assembly, and then re-adjust the eccentric nuts to tighten the bed. - The Z-axis pulleys were quite loose which allowed the extruder assemblies to wobble. Aside from these quality control issues, there were still issues. A few things about the Artist-D Pro that I wasn't entirely happy with: It's a well-known fact that the blow bucket design is terrible. Your nozzle stops over the brush and extrudes plastic onto the brush, which then cools and locks the extruder assembly in place. Since the gear teeth are nylon, this will cause wear as they spin in place while your extruder is glued to the blow bucket. Printing an improved version I found online solved this problem. The plastic bezel on the front (with the JGmaker logo and ads?) is useless and makes it difficult to press the screen. I took this off myself which makes the screen very easy to press and looks nice and clean. Glow sensors have a high resistance. This hasn't been a problem yet, but I will modify them for smoother performance. The fans are LOUD. It doesn't bother me too much, but I'll convert it to something quieter soon. This whole process took about a week and I was about to get it back. But now that I've configured it properly to my liking, it's actually a pretty good printer. The mirror and duplicate modes worked great when I tested them. It is very easy to adjust print settings on the fly. And IDEX for dual-substance printing is much better and more economical than a common nozzle like the Lotmaxx Shark V2 that I tried before. I wouldn't say it's a good first printer for most people, but I think it'll last me quite a while now that I'm familiar with some of its intricacies.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not automatic
