Nice, nice and strong belt. No, it's not a solid piece of leather, it's, as someone said, three pieces of fabric glued together. This makes it very stiff, which can cause it to hold its shape for a while. Solid leather straps tend to be softer and mold to my shape fairly quickly, so we'll see how this one holds up. I've had several good belts over the years and this one looks every bit as good as any, with contour stitching on the outside. I love the conchos and the basket weave pattern which is neatly done but the first thing I did was take the buckle off and put on my own. I think this belt will work well for the money. Even more expensive and I would have expected firm leather.
