Assuming you're wearing decent thick socks, the shoes are pretty comfortable. The top of the tongue is covered in a heavy (sharp-edged) material that is very hard and can dig into skin (other reviewers have mentioned cuts they sustained after wearing it while running). I've tested them by walking around the house in socks and it hasn't bothered me (yet). I've tried them on with shorter socks and I definitely understand why people end up nicking the edge of their tongues. I am very confused as to why a shoe designer would design a shoe with such an obvious flaw. One of the main reasons I love my vintage Altra Escalantes is the nice soft tongue and zero drop which is great for those who don't want heels in their running or hiking shoes. The material appears to be waterproof or water-repellent. (although the rest of the shoes are not). It feels more airy (breathable) than my previous Escalantes and also lighter. The shoe offers firm support at the heel and ankle as well as at the front of the toe. I prefer shoes with no sagging and cushioning as I walk/run on city streets most of the time and the cushioning makes walking comfortable. Those looking for size 10 are EU 44, UK 9. Although it fits more like EU43 I think
