I was afraid it would "disrupt" or bother the passengers in the back seat, so I was a bit wary, but I needed a place for my purse so I could reach it when I have the passenger. Actually, it doesn't bother me at all. I often put my purse in front and use it to store snacks and an extra bottle of water. I can still open the armrest all the way and everything is neatly packed. It probably depends on your machine, but it works very well in my little Equinox.
