So I bought this projector to replace a very similar star projector with no smart features that was starting to make noise. It must have been thrown off the shelf while cleaning or something. This is identical in size. CONS: 1) Note that it uses real lasers and has warnings not to look into the beam with your eyes, so it's best to use it high on a shelf if you have very young children. My child is 7 so I think I can explain the warning and I hope my child doesn't take action. It also says not to shine up in the sky if you are within 10 miles of an airport. I don't know who would report this (perhaps in the clouds?), but apparently it deserves a warning. 2) It comes with USB but no actual two pin connector. I used a USB extension cable but it wasn't included, which often annoys me a bit, but I guess that's to be expected these days. Just remember that if you're going to give it as a gift, you should test it first. Setup doesn't take long, especially if this isn't your first smart home device, but give yourself around 15 minutes to follow the instructions (quite thorough). The instructions were ok, some parts were a little wrong or confusing, but I never got completely stuck or frustrated. reach the ceiling, digitally or manually, as far as I can tell. It does this by placing it further or closer to the ceiling on higher or lower surfaces. If you're like me, you mean a place that looks like a shelf above the table, but to me it doesn't cover as much of the ceiling as I'd like. It is best when there are no obstacles nearby. It has several "built-in" gradient bands that adjust the position of the center of the nebula. 4) The smart home app only has about 2 stars out of 7,000 or so reviewers on the App Store. I will report any problems 5) It's a smart device, so if you ever get a new WiFi router or even just change your password from time to time, it's just another device to mess around with, it could be be pretty easy fix but now it takes a bit longer. If your child relies on it to sleep, this can sometimes be a problem. I use a password manager which is very helpful in this case to speed things up. For security reasons, it is recommended to reset these things from time to time. 6) he uses Zigbee. I think if you have ZWave or whatever you might be in trouble. I haven't checked my hub, but I'm pretty sure I have Zigbee. PROS: 1) I love the control it offers! It has the ability to schedule on and off times. I use this in my kid's room so I love that I can set it to turn on before bed and turn off an hour after bedtime. Alternatively, you can just put a timer on it. 2) Brightness Control - My child has a tic disorder and although unlike epilepsy I try to avoid bright or flashing lights. I like decorative lighting, although not too intense. You can also set it to only turn on when it's asleep and then turn off when it actually goes to bed - your choice. I reduced the brightness. 3) Saturation control is fun! This allowed me to create my child's light in cheerful rainbow pastel colors instead of the intense primary colors that these devices typically emit. The overall effect is what I call a "unicorn" or "mermaid" nebula. So, trending, lol. 4) Modes: party, relax etc. - you can even edit them or create your own definitions e.g. B. Flash or no flash etc. 5) Fog on/off and stars or lasers on/off - this is a personal preference. Laser stars have only one color - green. 6) Ability to connect Alexa for voice commands. As you can see in my video, you can also use your voice to decrease or increase the brightness. My kid loves it! It's great that you don't have to get out of bed when you're almost asleep and you don't need a phone app to control it. Tip: You don't have to say "Smart Star Projector" every time, I learned the hard way that it's a tongue twister! Just say "Star Projector". You're welcome! In general, I've been wishing for a smart version for a long time!
