This is a 2014 model. Late 2014 SYMA updated SC to SC-1 to fix stability. It's fixed. Later in 2015-2017 the SC-1 was updated again and SYMA added the X5SW and added "headless mode" to both. "Headless mode" is important. If it flies far, you can lose left-right, front-back orientation because it's hard to see. In "headless mode" the quad flies in the direction you move the right stick, whether it's rotated 90 degrees or the front is now facing you. If it's facing you, the left-right command works in reverse. So HM is a really nice feature for any ATV. So get the newer version. The newer version of the chassis has a "spider" instead of a "sled" like this one. That's the way to say it. Strong. Arrived 95% ready to fly. Just add protective cases (very easy) and charge the battery. cool lights Very stable flight. SYMA also have many parts for this series as they have made several modes of X5 series. 3.7V batteries are easy to find. Good controls. A great learning opportunity or a good camera platform for advanced users. A+Fly is like a "trainer" who learns how to navigate. Just don't let it get too far so you always see where it's at. Attach a few strips of tape to the front arms to make it easier to see which one is in front. Also, it doesn't have an altitude hold mode, meaning you actually have to hit the throttle every second to control altitude. Any quad with an Altitude Hode makes the learning process that much easier because it stays where you are. You can then focus on learning horizontal maneuvers. My first TOZO 2020 quad had altitude hold. Really helps with learning. This is a long lasting low tech simulator. You really need to "fly" on it every second. The X5CSW has Headless Mode for $7 less.
