I check 2 of these a week and have done so for over 30 years. I've used most brands and Maxell (or Sony or Memorex) are the top 3. I always try to buy with a plastic case as it will keep them dust free for many years. I'm just recording the voice. They're hard to come by in regular stores, so it's best to go online if you can get a good price. Lately they've been around $1.20 each plus shipping. I would not pay more than what is currently available. (I try not to go over the dollar with wholesale prices) Many places have them and prices vary wildly! The package has recently changed from 10 packs to 7 packs, but the prices haven't increased much. I would look for a good deal in that regard, but don't worry about the quality of the tapes. I still listen to some of them that were recorded in the 1970s and don't bother storing them much - some in the barn for the long, frigid winters. Never had a problem except with cheap nameless brands or no cases.
