Review on ๐Ÿ’ป G.SKILL KM360 Tenkeyless Mechanical Keyboard, Cherry MX Red Switch, ABS Dual Injection Keycap, Black by Robert Tirona

Revainrating 5 out of 5

In 2020 I spent hundreds on keyboards. This one is still my favourite.

That's it. This was my first mechanical keyboard which I bought after watching the Linus Tech Tips video. From the moment I bought it I fell in love with it and wondered if I could get essentially the same keyboard with some additional features. I realized that no matter how versatile other keyboards are, I always want to go back to this one. Here are the keyboards I bought this year (that I'm comparing against): - Release CTRL. low profile ($220 - Kaihua Speed Silver Linear Switches) - Logitech G915 TKL ($240 - white tactile switches) - Royal Kludge 68 ($50-90, bought two versions of these which I returned) - Keys Logitech MX ($100 non-mechanical) - This is G.SKILL KM360 ($50) CONS - What this keyboard lacks, which put me off buying other keyboards: - Pass-through USB port. I use a hardware security token for work and prefer to have it as close to my typing fingers as possible. I have a USB-A key and a USB-C key so either would be great. So I bought the Drop CTRL ($240) hoping it would be essentially the same keyboard but with a USB jump. - No wireless option (preferably RF for gaming). This motivated the purchase of the Logitech G915 TKL and the RK68. Not a fan of Bluetooth. You will also need a wired version. - No dedicated media keys - nice to have but not critical for me as I can map some keys on my streaming deck (macro) to volume control (which works great for me). PROS - the things that are so good about this keyboard that keep me coming back to it: - The backlight is STRONG - the biggest disappointment of my life has happened every time I've unpacked a new keyboard and found it just no match for the previous one was . the glowing brightness of my $50 KM360. Before wireless keyboards, I see. But the drop CTRL keyboard really let me down. $250 wired keyboard with white, some blue and very muffled sound! RGB is not as important to me as luminescence! Give me whiter, brighter than white! - Shifts smoothly, like clockwork. No changes required. The big downside of the Logitech G915 TKL was that I didn't enjoy the switches as much as I did when using the G.SKILL. Sure, they're tactile and unobtrusive, but comparing apples to apples (Drop CTRL or RK68) I get the best feel from the G.SKILL and Drop keyboards. All in all, I look forward to the day G.SKILL makes this keyboard with a USB dongle, dedicated media keys, and wireless RF option. Until that day comes, I'll stick with the G.SKILL KM360 and my closet will be filled with keyboards that haven't eclipsed their much cheaper counterparts. TL; DR: Feel free to buy this keyboard!
