The Best (Inexpensive) Maintenance Secret for Your Car

For the last 8 months whenever I turned off my 2007 BMW 328i coupe a light came on telling me my battery was low. If I listened to the radio with the engine off, after 1-2 minutes, in an autonomous act of desperation, the car would automatically turn off my radio to save enough power for the next trip. My car continued to start, but the caveat made me prepare for the cost of a new battery, which in my car's case is around $200. I recently took my car in for an oil change and asked a friendly mechanic for help. Check my battery what he did. At the end of my service, he handed me the results on a piece of paper (see Figure 1). Reading showed that my battery was rated for 790 cold cranking amps (CCA) but was only outputting 401 CCA. And the graphics made it clear that it was time for a new battery. Considering he's an Interstate Battery salesman, he certainly didn't need to tell me about the cheap workaround, but he did share a secret I had no idea about. He said that I might want to buy a smart charger and see if it charges the battery. FABULOUS! I went home, immediately started looking into smart chargers and how they work, and chose this one from YonHan mainly for two reasons: it was only $28.99 and it could charge at 8 amps, which improved charging times reduced to several hours days that 1 amp chargers can last. It was also 'intelligent', meaning it could determine if your battery needed 'desulfation', a process that allows the battery to return to near-new condition. and be better able to hold a good charge. This is accomplished using "Repair Mode", a slow pulse charging method that can take anywhere from a day to a week depending on the condition of your battery. cranked up at about 13 volts and the low battery indicator stopped coming on. I then decided to put it into repair mode and let it desulfate overnight. After 12 hours I looked at the charger and it automatically turned itself off and the battery gave out 15 volts! Unbelievable! Apparently my battery wasn't in terrible shape to desulfate in 12 hours. However, I consider this whole process a miracle and a huge money saver. There are several smart chargers at Revain identical to this one, although sold under different names. I bought it because it was $4 cheaper than the competition. The instruction that came with the charger is useless, but there are many videos on YouTube on how to use the smart charger. Immerse yourself. Using this charger is incredibly easy and practically reliable. Important: For my car it is important not to connect the charger directly to the battery. Instead, remote battery racks must be used under the hood. Refer to your owner's manual for instructions on how to charge the battery for your vehicle model. I started my car and turned on the radio with the engine off and my car life is great again. I didn't have to use it again. But if my battery dies in the future I have this great little device to fix it. What a great purchase! 5 stars and Bravo!
