Review on πŸ”’ CargoBuckle F18800 G3 Retractable Ratchet Tie-Down System, 2-Pack - Secure Your Cargo with Ease! by Bishop Roshad

Good work! I wish they had lasted longer.

When new they are exactly what you expect. I have them on an aluminum motorcycle trailer that I often use several times a week and they make it easy to lock up the bikes. I love these things! (at least when new). When I pick up a bike people are always amazed at how well these straps work with the Condor wheel chock. Be aware that your caravan will not last forever if left outside. They'll look old in no time and you'll need to oil them to make them work properly. My only real concern is that for the price they should last longer, especially cosmetically. My caravan is under a roof that is protected from the rain, but at certain times of the year it still gets some sun. The orange material on the levers looks well worn after just a few weeks and looks run down, faded and old in 6 months. After a few years, the plastic on some of the levers will start to deteriorate. A couple of them had a roll-up spring that failed, one after about a year and the other after about two years. If they failed, that doesn't mean they failed me. They still worked, I just had to snap them in manually and they no longer tightened automatically. Understanding how they work I'm not surprised that small springs sometimes fail and I'm very happy with it. This is an acceptable compromise for comfort compared to traditional harnesses. I have a couple of these that are almost 4 years old and still work but will likely be replaced soon for cosmetic reasons if not some other reason. I will definitely be buying more in the future but I really want them to stay fresher longer. So I think in my environment 5-6 years is the maximum life expectancy. Note that the error meant that one ratchet was not tightened and the other was not loosened. Neither of them compromised the load by loosening it after tightening, but that didn't inspire much confidence. Is 5 1/2 years good? It's not great for me but hey I just ordered 4 new spares so I guess I'll stick with my original estimate.

Pros
  • Double security lock
Cons
  • Big and chunky
