Based on all the reviews on this fan, I specifically purchased this fan for its perceived noise level and performance, as well as its small overall size, narrow base and flat back. This allows me to place it on a windowsill against a mesh screen and let outside air in whenever I want. I knew this thing was going to be pretty cheap, so I crossed my fingers. First it's the specs, it has a three position switch on the back: low, off and high. When you receive it, it will probably be smaller than expected, which was good for me. It doesn't look as cheap as the picture, but you definitely don't see it in a museum. The power cord is WHITE which adds to the cheap look as you would expect it to be black or gray. The cord is no longer than five or six feet, which felt a bit short to me, but that's okay. When I first got it, the first thing that struck me was that it works. Okay, thank goodness, no DOA. But when you fire it up, the fan actually hits the front grille for the first few revolutions until it picks up speed. This isn't an issue that affects the performance of the fan, it just shows a rather poor build quality. and a high setting blows the newspaper 6 feet from the table. I trusted this review and expected a little fan monster, but let me just tell you that this reviewer is definitely exaggerating, no pun intended. The fan is by no means weak for its size, but don't expect a Category 5 hurricane in your room. You get good speed, more than enough to blow your face, but it still can't make up for the surface of the big fans. Also in terms of sound, I think most reviewers are exaggerating a bit. . At its highest setting, the fan is noticeably louder than the larger big-name fans, but it's by no means an aircraft engine. For you hardcore "white noise" folks, this might not offer what you're looking for unless it's a few feet from your bed. At night, I set the settings to high, about 6 feet from my head, and face a different direction, and I can still watch TV without distraction. I find the noise sufficient for my white noise needs when I'm sleeping, but I don't suffer from major sleep issues, so just keep that in mind. Overall this fan is for you if you want exactly the things I was looking for in a fan ie decent noise, small size etc. Otherwise there are better options on the market for not much more money. Let me just say I like the air circulating in my room and this fan has been running 24/7 for the last two months and *knock on wood* this thing isn't dead yet. Well at least the motor is in order. I will update this review if anything changes.
