After learning about eyeshadow storage, I turned one of my old Urban Decay cardboard palettes into a DIY palette that combined my favorite eyeshadows from three separate palettes into one. It worked great but couldn't be refilled. Then I learned about magnetic pallets. Ha! I first bought one in mermaid color. Once again Iconsokid has combined multiple palettes into one, but in the process there were some shadow losses, it can be difficult to put on a show without bumping into and ruining the shadow. So always practice a few shawdows that don't interest you very much first. My mermaid magnetic palette may have a tool, but I found it too thick to fit between the tiny metal rim of each shadow and its cardboard or plastic sleeve. Hot Tip - I ended up using one of these acne sticks. Also, take the time to warm up your palettes to loosen the glue holding each shadow in place. I placed mine on a heating pad and covered it with a towel until I was ready to go back and start unpacking. With any luck, the shade comes out easily and has a smooth metal back. But if not, then the small metal plates included in the palette are there for that. I had issues with some of the plates not sticking to the back of the shadows so I only used a very small drop of Mod Pod. Just remember to let the glue dry before placing the shadows on the palette. I wouldn't try this process with my $65 Huda pallet.
