This product has many flaws but I give it five stars because I can't think of a better consumer product at this price point. I live in a long, narrow 6,000 square foot house that I couldn't even come close to covering with even the additional router and WAP combo provided by the ISP. The main router for the house is at the other end. More on that later. I played around with the settings and was very disappointed with throughput, latency and network reliability, especially on the far end (3rd WAP). At this point I was doing all the wireless backhauls (mesh is a misnomer) and on the third WAP, although the software indicated a reasonable connection, the throughput was under 1 Mbps and the latency was also poor. In the end I decided to make copper (ethernet transit). I'm by no means a networking expert, but I lead Cisco public sector networking projects, so I'm tied to the basics. For this I bought an unmanaged gigabit switch (that's the key. Fast Ethernet probably won't work). My topography looks like this: The router provided by the ISP connects to Lyra's main access point via copper cables through Lyra's WAN/LAN port. The gigabit switch connects to the main Lyra access point via its LAN port. The second access point is connected to the gigabit switch via its WAN/LAN port. The 3rd access point is connected wirelessly (but that will change once I find a low voltage wiring specialist here to run the Cat6 cable for me). I have excellent coverage throughout my house and even a third hotspot gets 25+ Mbps with relatively low latency. Long story short, if you already have problems or a similar scheme for me, I would recommend creating an ethernet backhaul using a gigabit desktop switch and cat6 flat cable so you can hide it under carpets.
