Review on Cat Mate Microchip Flap White by Rovy Oppeneer

Lifeguard in my house!

This is exactly what I was looking for! There is a cat in my house that inhales its food and is looking for other food to destroy. My other 2 cats are grazing and need some weight gain. I've spent a lot of time researching ways to separate cats. really too much time! I don't feel comfortable locking a forage hunter in the basement or locking herbivores in another room. Enter the microchip cat door! I've used plain cat doors in my house for a long time, but now I've replaced the regular door in one room with a microchipped door! Now I can allow access to my 2 grazers and deny access to my inhaler. No more caged cats! So I'm very glad this exists and helps solve a real problem in my house. Cons: The "pipe" that cats have to go through is quite large, and herbivores are nervous even when using it. on cat doors in general. It took them some time to figure it out. You will find it a bit more difficult to use than a regular cat door/flap. (Of course Fat McFat Fat had no problem with it as long as I had it in "training mode"). Speaking of which, I couldn't get the "practice mode" to work so I just sealed the locking mechanism for a few days - worked the same way and probably got used to the sound of the locking mechanism better. Another disadvantage is that the lock makes a loud noise, which scares the cats a bit. I think they're used to it by now. Lock scanning/unlocking seems inconsistent on how fast it works. Sometimes the cat just stands by the door and unlocks it. Other times, the cat sticks its head into the tube, presses its head against the lid, and it doesn't open immediately. As they learned how to use the door, this discouraged them. When the door didn't open, they retreated, and when they retreated, the door opened. It helped if I stood by the door and stopped it as it opened. It needed some encouragement but I think you understand it may take a few seconds? Because I help with the door, sometimes one of my cats will come up to me and do annoying things to get my attention - I think he wants me to open the door for him. We are working on it!Another minus is that the door itself is very noisy. That's only an issue for me because it's about 5ft from our bedroom, so it's annoying at night. At first, the unlocking sound is loud, the cat bangs its head on the door several times, and then the door opens and closes loudly, mainly because it hits the lock when closing the door. I'm sure if I closed the bedroom door it would help, but my cats won't let me close the bedroom door - they will scratch it until I let them in. If I get this mad at night, maybe I'll just lock her up. the cat is in your room (you can put a lock so you can't get in or out). Anyway, I am very happy that this product exists. I wish it was a little quieter, didn't have that long weird tube to get in and scanned and opened faster. I will say that this microchip door was the cheapest out there (that I have seen) so maybe there is a better door out there. My previous simple cat doors were Cat Mates so I figured they would be the easiest for cats to work with. ****UPDATE**** After using the door for a month, everyone is completely used to using it. It's still noisy, but my boys know how it works. Fat McFat Fat is still sitting outside wistfully looking at the food he doesn't have access to. He never gives up! I was very happy to be able to use this door during our vacation. No one should be locked in a room for days (which would result in at least one vicious poop on the floor if locked), and no one should starve. I'm so happy! I hope this product continues to work well.
