good mattress. Plastic smell

I have to be fair about this mattress as I don't like a portable crib per se. My daughter doesn't like her crib and I think it has to do with her size. She's definitely a crawler and always ends up in a corner in tears. She started with Moses' basket, not the manger, and that may be why she wasn't used to the manger. As for the Colgate mattress, I would say that what I dislike the most is its smell. It has a very strong plastic odor that permeates through the sheets even with the waterproof sheeting on top. I have breathable bumpers so air circulates better than traditional ones but the smell is still there. I read some reviews where people wiped down the mattress. I think that shouldn't be necessary with baby sleep products! I don't like foam either, just doesn't seem comfortable enough. The mattress fits the cot well. And I can't compare it to other foam mattresses as it was ordered online. However, I wouldn't mind bringing it back if it's still possible and trying to sleep on my 3 inch spool to see if the spool might be what I was looking for. I leaned toward the spool because I wasn't sure if it might make a difference when my daughter starts to stand. My comment is that while a travel cot seemed like a logical space saving option for my studio apartment, I would not buy it again as its minimal use seems to completely negate the presence of a cradle. I can't remember my first child being so miserable in his full size cradle!
