The brush is longer than I am used to as I used to only use drugstore brands or high quality mascara samples. However, after about a week of regular use, I got the hang of it and understood why it was designed that way - they try to prevent the user from putting their hand on their face during use. this mascara, which may erase or smudge makeup already applied. At first I felt like I had less control of the wand, but like I said, it got easier with practice. The brush itself is mostly great. Goes straight to the roots, sways slightly from side to side, then when I tumble up the effect of volume and length is amazing! My only complaint is that the brush is wide at the tip, so I tend to smear the mascara all over my eyelid, trying to hit the smaller lashes in the inner corners of my eyes. The benefit washes off easily, but still, with a moistened cotton swab. It's one more step and one more thing to throw away. The mascara wears well all day and resists light cracking without smudging. It REALLY gets clumpy and flakes off during application and pools under the eyes throughout the day so I recommend only using a coat or two after application to avoid/minimize these issues. All in all, this is a pretty good product. and I would purchase other Stila products based on my satisfaction with this one. It gives the look of long, voluminous "wet" lashes that I love. However, I will look for a less clumpy and flaky formula.
