This is an inexpensive and relatively high quality coating. I put it on a 2012 RAV4 that had a steel spare in the back. If you have the latest RAV4, pay attention to the plastic body contour that Toyota applies to the spare tire. Looks nice but makes this cover difficult to install. Here's how I managed to install it: 1) Remove the key from the side compartment on the back of your RAV42) Note that your spare key is secured to the tailgate with three nuts. Using a wrench, completely remove the bottom nut and loosen the top two nuts as far as possible (without cracking). 3) Now you can pull the spare tire towards you and tilt the underside. Emergency exit.4) After turning the cover so that the two hooks are on top, cover the underside of the spare tire with the cover. Make sure the elastic part is behind the hoop. 5) Pull the cap off halfway - we still need to tighten the nuts! so do it now Push them in firmly to reattach the spare tire securely to the tailgate. 6) Now pull the sides over the hoop and up. You may need to pull on the bottom of the cover to spread it evenly over the tire. Once you've done that, the hooks will be at the top. 7) Snap together, adjust for evenness, done! It wasn't an easy install, but the end result looks great. My RAV4 is black so it looks way better than a mere spare. The only downside is that I would have preferred the hook slots on the bottom, but it would be even harder to put the lid on that way, so I decided to just put the hooks on the top.
