Perfect for what it is
This is normal for what it is. It fits comfortably in the CD compartment. I can't speak of any damage to the CD player as I no longer use it in my car with the advent of the iPod connector. It's durable and keeps the phone in the right position. Handles well even on bumpy roads. Best of all, it's about eye level, so when I look at my phone, I'm also looking at the street.
