Bought for use with painted turtles in a 30 gallon aquarium (about 2-3 weeks ago). It heats up nicely while sitting at the top of the screen. Turned off due to overheating a few times, then restarted. Good security feature, especially in the youth room. We also have a kettle and now that we have a lamp it works less. The turtle is doing well and its health has definitely improved. We turn it off at night and turn it on again in the morning. This lamp cannot be used with a dimmer; it's on or off, otherwise I would give it 5 stars instead of 4. Overall we are happy with it.
