Dock works fine most of the time. I've had it for less than a week and just noticed that when you unplug the power cord the USB port is disabled and you can't use the port. It annoys me, but it's not the end of the world. I have no idea why other reviewers say you need a dock. I owned my hated Surface 3 for about a year and the only reason I had to buy a dock was because I was having trouble charging my computer. The genius who "helped" me at the local Microsoft store figured out why charging was so difficult (the metal part in the charging port was bent). When I asked him if buying a docking station would solve the problem, he replied that it would only make it worse. Luckily, I decided to dig deeper into the issue and found that he had no idea what he was talking about. The dock actually has a completely different charging method and using it fixed the charging problem. That being said, the docking station is very large and heavy, and since I mainly use my computer in coffee shops, lugging it around has now become a big problem. I hate my Surface 3. There are so many things in it that don't work properly or are poorly designed by overpaid Microsoft geniuses. And I got mine for half price but it was too much for such a crappy product. I look forward to the day when I have the money to ditch my Surface and buy a regular computer.
