Review on MSI B450 GAMING PLUS Max ATX Motherboard: AMD Ryzen 2ND and 3rd Gen AM4 Support with M.2, USB 3.0, DDR4, DVI, HDMI, Crossfire by Kiril Velchev ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The product is the most common, it could be worse.

AMD Ryzen 3950X processor purchased. Even Ubuntu didn't need to be reinstalled because the processor booted up without any issues. SATA is used to link 5 HDDs to the motherboard. SATA5 and SATA6 connections failed to establish a connection. The same issues with the MSI Tomahawk motherboard's predecessor were fixed by the BIOS update. I haven't yet discovered a fix for this motherboard. Unlogical BIOS configuration. For instance, MSI crammed virtualization into the Overclocking section. In the BIOS, the buzzer is by default turned off. Therefore, it is unclear whether the motherboard has started or not without a monitor. As a result, I deducted one point for a SATA bug where one HDD was still hanging. For the non-standard port of indicators and buttons, the second point was deducted. I usually connect them using an adapter, which you first assemble before attaching it to the motherboard in a single motion. I had to use tweezers to get at this, but I still ended up ripping off my arm's skin.

Pros
  • Low cost. support for CPUs of the third generation.
Cons
  • The SATA5 and SATA6 ports are inoperative. clever BIOS. The non-standard button and indicator port was divided in half by MSI, creating two independent ports with a PC speaker and buttons and indicators.
