I read a lot of reviews about these patches on first use. Mine looked brand new after first use. Now I hand wash them before use and don't know if that helped or not. I am aware that pots, pans, etc. are covered with a protective varnish before shipping, which must be washed off before use. I'm not sure if they did or not. Food slides off them. The only thing to note is that you cannot use the red silicone on the side as handles when they are hot, you still need to use oven mitts as they will still be hot to the touch. One last thing: they could be a bit thicker, but for home use they're fine. In general I am very happy with them
