Review on πŸ”¬ KHCRAFT 150mm Chrome Plated Precision Measurements with 0.001mm Accuracy by Norman Costello

Hardly anything to complain about the price

Does what it says on the tin, at an impressive price. The scales are screwed on rather than integrated into the slide block, which isn't a good thing - if they ever loosen even a little bit, accuracy will be reduced. Also, my set seems to feel small when closed. The case is covered in cheap foam rubber that I'm sure will crumble in a few years. It doesn't have a real wheel, just a knurled thumb rest, and the head of the setscrew is on the small side (presumably because a large head with a lot of leverage risks deburring the brass shank). The scales are not exactly in the same plane, so you have to watch out for parallax when reading. The imprecise edges were left a bit sharp for my liking (although none of them were dangerous) - the Scotchbrite or Emory paper could have been cleaned up a bit. All this to say that the sliding is fairly smooth, the grip is adjustable (at least in theory), the bolsters are ground and the scales (with the caveat above) offer sufficient accuracy. And it's not marked 128s like all stupid department stores. Neither of these issues is a deal breaker, and for what I use them for (general carpentry, 3D printing, and electronics work) I can't really complain for the price.

Pros
  • Professional precision measuring tool for industrial use (especially for metal workpieces), completely different from hand-held measuring tools (e.g. any caliper made of carbon steel, which is not suitable for measuring metal workpieces due to its low hardness)
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
