Review on KING VQ4800 Portable Mountable Satellite by Micheal Looney

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Should have gotten it a long time ago

After reading other reviews I was concerned that I might have trouble getting a strong signal at campsites but I was fed up with a handheld antenna set up and aligned on a tripod. . Delivered in 2 days, unpacked and set up in our driveway, hooked up to our van for testing. I am using a Directv D-12 receiver. I set up the power supply, at this point my receiver had finished rebooting and I was seeing Directv. I went into the signal meters and found that all of my transponders were at 95% or better and the overall signal strength was 98%. I was pretty happy. The real test was last week when we drove to St. Augustine, Anastasia State Park, Florida, very wooded, couldn't get a clear shot from the ground or a tripod, but my tow was high enough to get over the tree line looking south west as we had an extra car i put the king on the roof of my p/u and of course got a strong signal but no local station got the king airborne with no problems. and received 45 stations in Jacksonville. The next test was an Orlando KOA with a bad cable so I used my Quest again and got all my transmitters. Now I start my receiver (so it can restart when I set up the quest) and when I plug everything in I get Directv. No more fumbling with manual aiming and struggling to hear the beep with some old military lingo to boot. Very happy

Pros
  • TV antennas
Cons
  • Out of fashion
