Connects to Internet/Cable TV in the house. So far, this hasn't affected the speed of the wireless network. We lost some of our gear in a storm and I don't want that to ever happen again. We have a whole house surge protector and all of the elements have been connected to the individual power cords of the surge protector. However, the incoming cable and HDMI cables were not protected. HDMI cables are susceptible to lightning and static electricity in the air during thunderstorms. I bought HDMI surge protectors, cable TV surge protectors, and this built-in surge protector to prevent damage to my TVs and the devices I just replaced. 4 stars because not yet tested in thunderstorms.
