Review on Mafia Definitive Edition for PlayStation 4 by Wiktor Fokt ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I expected mediocre quality, but the product was pleasantly surprised.

Those who played the original will play this one, understand everything without explanation, wipe away a mean tear and get a lot of fun. This is the same Mafia, in places a little less in terms of complexity. For those who are not familiar with the original, to play or not to play is a moot point. The first is NOT GTA5 or RDR2, only in the atmosphere of America in the 30s. The open world is empty, simple and needed mainly in order to go from point A to point B, while listening to the dialogues of the characters. The game is absolutely linear, no adventures in the city in freeride mode, except for boring chases from law enforcement officers, can be found. If you delete from the missions the time to travel to the desired point in such an “open world”, then the time to complete the game will be reduced by at least half. Secondly, there is not everything that is fashionable to do in games these days. There are few weapons, few cars, there are no special opportunities, there are NO elements of character leveling, the choice of costumes, skins for weapons and other whistles. There are also no side quests, interaction with random objects and NPCs. Thirdly, the engine is new, but for 2022 the game looks sad - the graphics are dull, not even up to GTA 5, which was released 7 years ago and was perfectly adapted for PS3 - the generation before last of consoles. GTA 5 on PS3 looked even better than Mafia in 2022 on PS5 (already played on PS5, although I understand that it was released for PS4, but this does not change what was said). Fourth - cooperative pages, hurricane dynamics, special effects of the Hollywood blockbuster level, careful study of details with rendering of cigarette s tered on the floor in a room that you visit for 20 seconds once per game, you will not find here either. For example - a mission in a hotel - all the rooms are made to look like carbon paper. Those unfamiliar with the original, when buying this game, should understand that this is not a modern re-release and rethinking of the original Mafia, but exactly the same game from the early 2022s, just on a different graphics engine. With all the consequences.

Pros
  • - This is the Mafia, yes, the same one and this is its main plus for those who played the same For those who haven't played: - play - interesting and captivating storyline - American 30s atmosphere, hats, raincoats, Prohibition and Tommy Guns
Cons
  • - this is the Mafia, yes, the same one and this is its main minus for those who played the same For those who haven't played: - may not be necessary - graphics stepped from the 2022s to the 2022s, but for the 2022s it looks dull. Textures are weak, animations are clumsy - the open world is empty and boring, does not represent anything interesting - for gamers from 2022, absolute linearity may seem bad manners. Yes and much more too
