Review on OWC 16GB (2 X 8GB) PC19200 DDR4 2400MHz SO-DIMMs Memory Compatible With 27&#34 by James Pernell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Added NVMe RAM and storage (to replace the Fusion drive) for my iMac i5 3.4Ghz

Over the years I have purchased various Apple Mac OWC upgrade products and have always been satisfied with the quality and price of these purchases. Also, my storage was upgraded: running macOS Catalina on a Micron 9300 MAX 6.4TB U.2 SSD via a Highpoint RocketStor 6661A Thunderbolt 3 to PCIe 3.0 X16 expansion enclosure and a StarTech.com U.2 to PCIe to x4 PCIe Adapter. - For 2.5" U.2 NVMe SSD - SFF-8639 PCIe Adapter - U.2 SSD - PCIe SSD - U.2 Drive (PEX4SFF8639). Read/Write on this iMac is 2200 MB. With a basic M.2 outer shell, the NVME.U.2 is worth considering when a larger (and more reliable) boot drive is needed. My iMac is like a brand new computer. Cleaning up my very large and previously corrupt photo libraries Activity Monitor showed the app using all 64GB of RAM. Before the updates, my iMac couldn't run seemingly simple software properly - my system became unresponsive indefinitely (swirling rainbow) with my 1TB Fusion drive and 8GB of RAM.

Pros
  • from 2017, good thing
Cons
  • fragile
