Review on Fellowes PrivaScreen Privacy Widescreen Laptops by Jeffrey Mosqueda

Almost identical to 3M privacy filter

I have the Fellows filter on a laptop and the 3M filter on my work laptop. The plastic sheet itself is nearly identical in terms of clear viewing angles, the way it dims from far to close as you exit the center, a small domed slit at the edge for lifting the sheet, and the screen dimensions. printed near the edge. I find the Fellows product numbers to be more transparent, which is nice. I would like a narrower viewing angle, but I have not found a better filter at any price. The main difference lies in the adhesive strips used to attach the sheet to the screen. The 3M tabs are long and don't extend far into the screen area. Fellows tabs are narrower but wider. The problem with narrower tongues is that there isn't enough glue to hold the tongues properly. The day I put them on they started falling off. I ended up having to glue the protrusions (and thumb for short) to the screen frame. My filter fits my screen perfectly, mainly due to a special width and height check on the flat area of my screen. You can't just go diagonally with them. All in all I would buy this filter for my future laptops.

Pros
  • TAA compliant
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
