It may take some time to use properly but I think the OEM tool is just as bad. I personally think the easiest way to use it is to slip under the cam while turning the valve all the way (i.e. with the cam pointing away from the valve). Just make sure the rib (the middle part that sticks out the most) is over the gasket bucket. Use tweezers to remove and replace the gaskets. Remember never turn over an engine with a missing gasket. If you need to remove more than one seal at a time to juggle them, use quarters as a temporary spacer to prevent damage to the cam.
