I've never owned a trackball before. The initial feelings were peculiar, and by the evening I had resolved to take it back to the shop where I had purchased it. But for the sake of the experiment, I've chosen to make use of it for the next several days. As a direct consequence of this, I have no desire to go back to using the mouse. When the hand remains in the same place at all times, there is no requirement to perform motions that are not necessary; this makes the situation more convenient. In addition, the ball does a good job of kneading the palm. In addition to that, twisting it can help relieve stress. After getting acclimated to it for a week, the ball started spinning considerably more easily, whereas at initially it was spinning with quite a bit of resistance. Holding down one of the additional keys now enables scrolling functionality in modern drivers. But I got used to it and eventually figured out that I could just shift the cursor to the right, where the scroll bar is, and scroll the page by spinning the ball while holding down the cursor. You have to spin the ball against its own inertia to scroll down the page, which is a slightly less convenient method than using the scroll wheel on a regular computer mouse. However, this method is smoother. So, this trackball is an excellent choice for using simple text programs, the Internet, and Photoshop together with an illustrator. There is the potential for issues with 3d editors. It is recommended that you retain a standard mouse on the table in addition to the trackball if you are going to be working with specialized programs that make use of the scroll wheel to rotate things or perform some other function. PS You shouldn't have any trouble finding this trackball for a good price. But, the form is not ideal for a hand like mine, which is more of an average size. In the not too distant future, I want to sample Kensington (it has a different shape and has a scroll wheel).
