About two years ago I was given this pepper mill for Christmas. Yesterday my son took it to pepper his guacamole and it literally broke in half on the side of the pepper. Upon closer inspection, the plastic wrap holding the peppers is cut off at the top. I used pliers to remove the part that screws into the case. We've used it a little, but certainly not on every occasion. I have contacted the manufacturer but the website is only in German so we will see if my concern is addressed.
