Review on Experience Unparalleled Trail Running with New Balance Men's Nitrel V3 Shoe by Michael Swanson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

4E 'Extra Wide' is not real! Watch out, wide feet!

SHORT VERSION: These Nitrel V3s seem well built for their price but - and it's a HUGE 'but' - if your feet are really wide, look elsewhere. These shoes are "normal" width at best. The photos show comparison sizing showing that these shoes - despite being labeled 'extra wide' - are the same size as the regular 12 in the NB Nitrel V1 (the blue shoes I really like). must be real). Also note the simplicity of the V3 insole (blue insole). I've never seen anything like this among the dozens of NB pairs I've owned, which made me wonder if they're fake. LONG VERSION: I've been a loyal New Balance wearer for 25 years, but if NB's quality control doesn't help if they don't get together, that could very well change. These Nitrel V3s appear to be well built for their price range but the dimensions are terribly inaccurate! I needed running shoes because the soles of my latest New Balance (780 v5) were becoming paper thin after 4 years and 12-15 miles a week (see photo). These were extremely comfortable, totally indestructible shoes that I bought here at Revain. for $60. With a view to this successful endeavor, I first ordered a New Balance Nitrel V1 in size 12, standard (blue shoes in the photos). I took a chance they were wide enough and they weren't so I ordered these Nitrel V3 size 12 4E "extra wide" hoping they would fit. Unfortunately they felt inexplicably narrower than the Nitrel V1! Also, I noticed that - unlike the V1 - the insole was particularly slick, something I've never seen in all the NB shoes I've had over the years. I can't help but wonder if they are fake? I ended up keeping the Nitrel V1 for short trips to the store, but settled on the $60 Asic Gel Pulse 11, right here from Revain, for my actual running shoes. They fit perfectly - almost identical to my trusty old 780 V5s.
