We love to eat the pecans we pluck from the local park, but shooting at our prey has always resulted in severe finger pain and pecan slivers. Once we figured out how to use this sheller (using a YouTube video as someone else suggested), we were on our toes. Pecans are now easy to shell, and more often than not we end up with whole (well, halves, you know what I mean) pieces rather than fragments. If you don't feel like searching for videos, the short version on how to use this sheller is: 1. Use the shelling teeth to slice off the top and bottom of the pecan shell.2. Rotate the pecan so the long end lines up with the teeth of the peeler and pinch the shell off the nut. Don't break off too much or you'll cut into the flesh.3. Continue to pinch small pieces of pecan shell all around until the nut is shelled. Break open the nut meat to remove the wood from the center (unless you can pull it out, in which case you're more talented than me). Bit by bit. It takes a bit of dexterity to know how much you can lose weight without slicing the pecan yourself, but once you get the hang of it you can move pretty quickly.
