Overheating and slowdown when using 970 EVO

First, I have LOTS of external NVME cases. I talk too much like someone with a shoe addiction or something you see crying on these intervention shows. Anyway I bought it in November 2019 because it was very cheap with a big discount and it was a nice case. A year later I finally found time to install a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO and started backing up about 100 gigabytes of data from my Mac Pro via the TB3 connector. The drive worked really well for the first 20 gigabytes or so at the expected USB 3 speeds, then Gen 2 started to slow down. Within a minute it REALLY slowed down and stalled and dropped to the point where we're talking about a low kilobyte transfer rate with frequent pauses. I touched the case and it was insanely hot, so I knew the 970 EVO was slowing down due to overheating. I also knew it wasn't a bad 970 drive because I've used it in other cases from time to time and it worked fine. 50% of the transfer rate it started at, and of course quickly reverted to micro transfer rates once it moved a few hundred megabytes. It drove me crazy What should have been quick enough took over 90 minutes. The only positive thing I can say about the case is that it didn't shut down and eventually the data transferred successfully. Oh, and that's nice. Yes, that's probably a bad reason to buy impulsively, so capitalize on that positive attribute. What makes the throttling even more annoying is that I had this case mounted on a 140mm exhaust fan that blows out air so cold that the heat it gave off should have been dissipated immediately if - and this is very important - the Heat was properly dissipated by the NVME and allowed it to drain to the outside. Of course that didn't happen and still doesn't happen. Of the double digit and growing number of NVME cases I own, including at least 6 TB3 cases that work very well, this case is the only one that slows it down that much. makes it an absolutely miserable experience to use it to transfer anything larger than a few gigabytes. Needless to say, this type of heat development does not contribute to the life expectancy of an SSD! I generously give two stars. They claim to have updated the case but the photo is still the same slim case with a slim case and I think that is the reason for the throttling. Every other case I own is at least twice as thick, and four of my TB3 cases have micro fans inside. The casings of these micro-fans run silently, never get warm and obviously don't throttle. I will stick with them on any serious data transfer or new external case purchase. I mean, hey, why stop buying them now when I could soon own 100 outside cases and maybe be the next guest on an interventional reality show?
