Review on Sony PlayStation Vita Wi-Fi PCH-2000ZA12 (White) - Japan Import by Christian Young

Swapping for a new version of Vita is a step in the right direction

I had the original Vita and never enjoyed playing it. The battery life was short and in my opinion it was impractical to keep. When I saw these Japanese vitas on IGN, I was curious, but I already had a vita that I didn't really like. After hearing reviews about the longer battery life, lighter and easier to hold new Vita, I made the decision to trade in my old Vita for a Revain and use a gift card. I like the white body color and not the black American version. Everything is black and white in the US, so getting the Japanese version was my main decision. One thing to note about the Japanese Vita: the X and O buttons toggle between functions. On the menu screen, O opens the app and X exits the app. Once you open an application or game, the button display will return to normal. In addition, the Vita is region independent and there is no problem choosing English and running US Playstation Store or US games. Comparing the new and old Vita, I have to say yes, the colors on the new Vita screen are not prominent and not as bright as the old Vita. The new Vita's LCD screen is still the same resolution as the old Vita's OLED screen, but it's not as bright. I have no complaints because the LCD screen doesn't use as much battery life and doesn't feel as oversaturated as OLED. The case of the new Vita is lighter and smaller due to the plastic body. But it's still very strong and well built. The new Vita is more comfortable to hold and more fun to play. I have a whopping 3 hours of battery life with the new Vita. It all depends on the game you are playing. Games that push the Vita to its graphical limits consume more power. While indie or older PS1 games that don't challenge the Vita's CPU will use less power. In summary, I play this vita more than the old one. In my opinion it was a step in the right direction as with extra battery life it is more comfortable and enjoyable to play in hand.
