Wash and dry thoroughly before use. The inside of the salt shaker was soiled with some kind of grease and there was some dirt on the underside of the pepper shaker lid. I've only had a few days but I've found that the metal bushings don't fit (picture above) so there are gaps at the bottom. Also, when you remove the cap (pictured above), whatever salt or pepper that was on the neck of the bottle will be left all over the place. On the plus side they look good and are quite large so you don't have to refill them often and they hold up pretty well. They definitely look better than they perform. So if you want pretty shakers this is for you, but if you want something that works well, not so much. Shakers from cheap paper dollar stores work better than these.
