I bought this lamp because its color is 2700K. Most high pressure sodium lamps are in the 1900 to 2100 K range and have a very amber tint to the light they emit. They are also less than half the cost of this lamp. [.] has a $6.99 LU70 bulb with free shipping, while I paid more than double that for this Westinghouse 37435 bulb. I rated them 4 stars due to the high price, plus the tint of the light is still quite yellow. If I had to do it again I would still buy this lamp but I would really like someone who makes HPS lamps with over 3200K color and at a competitive price. I have no idea what's preventing HPS bulbs from being mass produced with a whiter hue. The slightly amber tint of this lamp is still much preferable to the tan tone of most HPS lamps and the extra $10 isn't worth it with a 24,000 hour lifespan; but I hope that by the time someone reads this, HPS bulbs with more than 3000K color will be available that will produce a more normal tone of the light they emit.
