I am fairly new to corsets/bodices, but I bought this for a Rennaissance Faire (a laid back one that doesn't care much for historical accuracy). This definitely served the purpose. It matched my outfit well (white top, green/black layered skirt) and I got a few compliments on the style. The patterning did give it a more modern/steampunk look, so if you are looking for something more natural/traditional looking, this may not be for you. I ordered an XL per the size chart and it fit well. Definitely do not order the size you'd use for other clothing. I am typically a small/medium or size 6-8.
