I have quite a large set to play with the scratching post. The 3 lower legs were covered with sisal/rope when new, but the cats completely tore off the rope. Instead of wooden legs, this tree has cardboard legs under the rope, and the cats have been gnawing through the cardboard, leaving gaping holes. I've tried covering the legs with pieces of rug again and securing them with a staple gun, but the cats clung to this rug and sometimes pulled out the staples too, leaving the rug loose. I used one of these bandages on a leg to see if they would tear it from scratching. I've had it for a few weeks and so far so good. The velcro is strong enough not to be ripped off the pole. The sisal is durable and covers the holes in the legs well. Now it looks much prettier. Covering the legs with these bandages is definitely more cost-effective than replacing the entire scratching post/playset, especially since it's large and expensive. I will buy more to cover the other legs that the cats ripped off. Update: 5/4/12 I've had this tape for a few months now. All cats scratch him, but none could snatch him from the base of the scratching post. Once on, the thing stays in place!
